REGULATION UPDATE The APNT continues to be involved in the rapid progress toward regulation of Complementary Therapies in the UK through its membership of The British Complementary Medicine Association (BCMA), The General Council for Massage Therapy (GCMT), The Aromatherapy Council (AC) and the Reflexology Forum (RF), and the participation of our Therapy Consultants in the various working groups. As a Multi-Disciplinary Association, APNT wishes to see all therapies covered within the process of voluntary regulation and is concerned not only with the protection of the public, but also that of the practitioner and the therapies practised. There are currently three models being promoted to achieve regulation of Complementary Therapies, and the APNT executive have agreed, on your behalf, to offer non-exclusive support to all three in order to achieve this. Detailed information on each of the proposals is available in the members area or contact the office if you wish to discuss progress with a member of the executive. December 2007 You may be aware from recent press releases and emails (sent to you without any permission having been given by the APNT) that a "breakaway" group known as the GRCCT, and consisting primarily of representatives of the Reflexology profession, is promoting itself as THE regulatory authority. The reality is that this is simply one of the models under consideration in the discussion of regulation of the whole of the CAM sector, and although APNT is open to consideration of this model as already declared, it has not given it exclusive support nor provided endorsement to its early launch and registration process.
